Actually, this is the problem:Independent of current controversies, the one thing I think we do poorly in American history education is over-historicizing evils and atrocities. We learn “they didn’t know any better” but in every case there are contemporaries who did!

We think things have changed, that we are "better" than "they" were "then."Agreed. But we live in a time that atrocious are known worldwide in a matter of minutes. Yet we still choose to ignore them.
