But conflicts of interest? The Justices know they can ignore those entirely, since only the Justice can decide if she/he has one.The Justices *know* the message it sends when they choose to give speeches in settings — and under circumstances — that reinforce criticisms of partisanship, lack of transparency, or both.

That some of them choose to do it *anyway* is just a gratuitous, self-inflicted wound.
We are all assured the Court is very concerned with its image and the appearance of its authority.Just a reminder that Florida was *one of the parties* in Ohio v. Dep't of Labor, which was one of the two emergency applications (along with NFIB v. Dep't of Labor) through which the Court froze the OSHA vaccinate-or-test rule:https://t.co/Zk7NHXarZm https://t.co/OIuBVfYNNh

The Supreme Court is the foremost source of corruption in our system. They are and have been increasingly blatant about their corruption because they face no consequences for it. I hope they break it and it gets reformed. Gorsuch, Thomas, Alito and Kavanaugh should all be removed from it for blatant corruption and perjury.
ReplyDeleteScalia long gave paid speeches and received benefits from conservative donors. Kavanaugh miraculously paid off hundreds of thousands of dollars of baseball tickets, and Barrett has her 2 million dollar book deal. The press has politely ignored conflicts years and will likely continue to do so. The six reactionaries see themselves less as judges and more as political operatives. We are a nation of laws. To ignore the law, even deeply biased law, is a path to anarchy. Much of the country will recoil from anarchy, which is why they know they can get away with whatever decisions they want. In the end the liberal agenda is mostly enacted through laws, the ability to at will strike down those laws is the most effective conservative power of this court.
