And that doesn’t just apply to critiques of authoritarian politicians. It’s their raison d’etre, too. They’re the superheroes fighting the comic book villains, and authoritarianism is their superpower.
Besides, DeSantis’ Florida sounds like every Southern state in the Union of my childhood. Status quo, sadly. Culture is virtually immutable that way. The American South is gonna be the American South for a long damned time.
Dese are de conditions dat prevail. The more things change, the more they remain the same. There is nothing new under the sun.
Sometimes clichés are familiar for a reason.
