The issue is not the voting patterns, it’s the number of voters. That’s why the county that matters for Presidential elections in Arizona is Maricopa; that’s where all the people are. It’s why Trump won a lot if Western states counties in ‘20, but not the electoral college.If every square mile of dirt in counties with few people in them also had a vote, he’d have a chance. If Colin Allred and Kamala Harris can get the urban Texas voters to turn out, it could turn Texas purple. Austin is not the blue dot in a sea of red. It never was. Every major metropolitan area in Texas is blue. But while enough of them vote to affect city/county races, not enough vote to affect Presidential and U.S. Senate races (don’t get me started on gerrymandered state and federal districts). If that shifts, well…
