The issue is not the voting patterns, it’s the number of voters. That’s why the county that matters for Presidential elections in Arizona is Maricopa; that’s where all the people are. It’s why Trump won a lot if Western states counties in ‘20, but not the electoral college.

If Colin Allred and Kamala Harris can get the urban Texas voters to turn out, it could turn Texas purple. Austin is not the blue dot in a sea of red. It never was. Every major metropolitan area in Texas is blue. But while enough of them vote to affect city/county races, not enough vote to affect Presidential and U.S. Senate races (don’t get me started on gerrymandered state and federal districts). If that shifts, well…
