Apparently he really believed he was going to Denmark to make a real estate purchase on behalf of the United States. I'd say he saw himself as Jefferson going to Napoleon, but I don't think Trump would get the reference.

Was this a joke, too? Personally, I don't think he's that self-aware. And now I'm convinced he was more serious than jocular.
