Governors are responsible for the health and welfare of their residents. It’s the primary purpose of government. That governors have this power, indeed this responsibility, is beyond dispute. But Trump’s flailing incompetence must be defended at all costs. So Trump says he is a dictator (in the Roman sense, a leader appointed in times of greatest danger to the Republic, with absolute power for that reason.), but that’s forgivable. What can’t be forgiven is the competent behavior of almost 50 governors as they act to protect the public health. Besides, all of this must be defeated:Weird that "the president is a stupid liar" is now the go-to move of the president's defenders. pic.twitter.com/EfjNar5hjb— David Frum (@davidfrum) April 14, 2020
From NYT in 2017: "His vision of executive leadership was shaped close to home, by experiences with Democratic clubhouse politicians as a young developer in New York...." 1/ https://t.co/NeEnw1tjac— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) April 14, 2020
Besides, this is literally a matter of life and death, and the elected officials closest to the people are ones who will benefit from the governors actions."...One figure stands out to Mr. Trump: an unnamed party boss — his friends assume he is referring to the legendary Brooklyn fixer Meade Esposito — whom he remembered keeping a baseball bat under his desk to enforce his power." 2/2 https://t.co/MAWr0sthui https://t.co/NeEnw1tjac— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) April 14, 2020
“If he thinks he’s going to force this state or any state... to do something that is reckless or irresponsible, that could endanger human life literally.
