"Be That As It May"

I had to track this one down.  Basically, Navarro's argument is China gave money to a bank where Hunter Biden had a checking account, so...

The tl:dr is that in late 2013 an investment management company was formed, and Hunter Biden put on its board (probably to trade on his name, frankly).  It was to be a "cross-border private equity fund."

According to a July 10, 2014, Wall Street Journal article, “A consortium of foreign and Chinese private-equity firms is aiming to raise about $1.5 billion to invest abroad, with the yuan-denominated portion of the fund to be converted to U.S. dollars through Shanghai’s free-trade zone.”

That's where the $1.5 billion (now downgraded to merely $1 billion) figure comes from.  It was money the firm, BHR, aimed to raise and invest.  Did they?  No one knows.  Did Hunter Biden get it?  There is not only no "strong" evidence he did, there's no evidence at all.  Biden's attorney says Biden didn't take a paying position on the board of BHR until 2017, and there's no evidence to prove otherwise.  He also says Biden served only in an advisory position for BHR while his father as VP, and that Biden served on another company than the one trying to raise the $1.5 billion (as Ultron said, "Finance is weird.")  And how did he take $1 billion from "the Chinese" (obviously to Trump citizens and government are one, ask Weija Jiang)?  Well, it's probably what Trump would do (or wishes he could even be in a position to try to do), so clearly Hunter did.

The figure was one the then fledgling company set as a goal, to attract investors, obviously.  Now Trump think it is a club he can beat Joe Biden with.  All it does is remind us Trump lies; Trump deals in this kind of fraud; Trump wishes he could make that kind of money from his fraud; in short, Trump is jealous of what he imagines Hunter got that Trump can't, because he doesn't, even as POTUS, have the connections Joe Biden gave his son.

It's kinda sad, really.  The worst part, though, is that Peter Navarro believes it.

ETTD, indeed; including human souls.
