One of the many violent protesters threatening Portland:In Portland, unidentified homeland security officers are detaining residents in unmarked minivans, allegedly violating their constitutional rights & escalating tensions in the city. Local elected leaders — including the mayor — want them out. DHS refuses. https://t.co/ghA5GYmG1G

A Navy veteran, he tells us he went to the protests for the first time to ask officers about the constitution.
He said his fingers are broken and he needs surgery.

I assume Charlie Pierce means Obama's decision not to go after the crimes of the Bush II regime, including John Yoo's crimes. It's funny, I had a long discussion with someone yesterday about how I couldn't stand thinking about how Obama yearned to get the Republicans to like him. I think we can add him to the list with Clinton of unfortunate Democratic presidencies. Not as bad as the Republicans would have been, a lot worse than some other Democrats would have been. I really, really hope that in that list of changes the Repubicans fear is getting Iowa and New Hampshire out of the business of choosing our nominees too often. Vote by mail is a perfect opportunity to open up that choice to a far wider geographic area and to get state legislatures and secretaries of state out of the business of getting their tiny, lily white states at the front of the process. Judd Gregg's father was one of the ones who got New Hampshire its place.
