Trump is wrong:— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) September 17, 2020
More than 90,000 deaths have occurred in red states. If that were the U.S. total, we would have seen the second-most number of deaths globally, trailing only Brazil.
The U.S. would still be responsible for 11% of global deaths. https://t.co/0qjZKCea4y
In the context of Barr letting his racist flag fly, he also wants us all to be civil libertarians. Problem is, given what little Trump and the states did do, we lead the world in covid deaths. Had we followed Barr's prescription: what then?
He insists the question is not one of pure science. He says you have to balance benefit of shutdown "against a lot of other factors." Suicides, overdoses are up, he says.— Matt Zapotosky (@mattzap) September 17, 2020
"All this nonsense about how something is dictated by science is nonsense," he says.
He "understands there are externalities" and "you can't threaten other people's lives"? Doesn't that undercut every stupidly libertarian thing he just said? Isn't that the very essence of the idea of public health and of quarantine? And this guy's the "smart one"? Like this one:
BARR: "Name 1 successful organization or institution where the lowest level employees' decisions are deemed sacrosanct, there aren't. There aren't any letting the most junior members set the agenda," Barr said, during a Constitution Day celebration at Hillsdale College in MI....— Ana Cabrera (@AnaCabrera) September 17, 2020
“They’re not crowing so much after they get whooped in the Supreme Court” — AG Bill Barr in his speech to Hillsdale College.— Katie Benner (@ktbenner) September 17, 2020
I think you just named one, Mr. Barr. From day one, the most recently appointed member of the Court is equal to the Chief Justice in all but the decision as to who writes the Court opinion. And that power flows to the Chief Justice from the first day he or she is appointed to the high court.
I'm sure I can come up with a few more examples.
Idiot.
