— Acyn (@Acyn) July 16, 2025High-fructose corn syrup can be American grown. (Is it the major source of supply? I have no idea.)
Cane sugar comes largely to this country from Mexico and Brazil. So…Trump wants to raise the price of Coke, and hurt American farmers even more?
Besides…MAHA?
High-fructose corn syrup was introduced in the biggest way to make more markets for mid-western corn crops, it became a huge thing during the depression and even more so afterwards. Trump is the stupidest ass in the world but those corn states suck it up like soda pop.
ReplyDeleteSan Miguel in the Philippines grows cane sugar and I'm pretty sure Coca-Cola is still their main customer. I got bumped up to first class between Tokyo and Manila seated next to their buyer. Had lots of Northwest Air Miles that didn't survive the Delta merger, but don't think I ever paid more than fifty pesos for a Coke or a beer. Most taxi fares were fifty pesos or less. Jeepney fares were 5 pesos or less. Right now the exchange rate is 57 pesos for a dollar.
ReplyDeleteMost soda pop is made with corn syrup. There are enough people whose origin is south-of-the-border that, for quite a few years now, Coke has a niche market "Mexican Coke" made with (you may have guessed it) cane sugar.
ReplyDeleteThe guy is *so* damn ignorant. Some people's left hands don't know what the right hand is doing, but in his case I don't think his thumb has any idea what his pinky finger is doing on the same hand.
