For the same reason anyone would work for Mitch McConnell or the Republican leadership in the House, they are fascists who want oligarchic rule. That is what McGahn's reason was, to put Federalist fascists on the courts, to implement oligarchy empowering and pleasing policies and legislation. They are all Trumps without the vulgarity and who, if not personally saturated with misogyny and racism are amorally unconcerned with that. That is the real meaning of "fiscal but not socially conservative," it's a mere lack of that predilection to control peoples' personal sexaual behavior while economically crushing them into serfdom. Economic conservatives aren't, though, above using the racism and sexual bigotry of others to gain and wield power. They are amoral.
