What if the Ambassador from Australia Gave A Speech?

"The United States is the most innovative nation on earth but, like every market leader, it will be beaten if it thinks it can do it all on its own," Hockey said in the speech to Westminster College.

"If you abdicate leadership you rarely get it back.

"So the US must not allow itself to walk away from its trade leadership role otherwise it will inevitably pay a very significant economic price."

Referring to the US President's election slogan, he added: "Being open to the world made America great in the first place; it will keep you great."

Hockey said he found US debate on trade "baffling" and that free trade had made the world safer by bringing nations closer together.

Critics of free trade base their arguments on "sentimentality and fear, rather than hope and opportunity", he added.

"History proves that economic isolationism is a precursor for war," he said.

"If a nation becomes economically isolated then history proves it can end up accelerating domestic
nationalism fuelling outward facing aggression."
Outward aggression that is as substantial as a scarecrow:

That "safe zone" is being enforced with the aid of Russia, not the U.S.  Sanctions are not a light switch; Trump cancelled them after 9 days.  They hadn't had a chance to be set into a memorandum, much less go into effect and have any affect on Turkey.

The closest oil came to being "insecure" in recent memory was the attack on a facility in Saudi Arabia.  Did you notice that at the fuel pump?  Did the world even notice?  Remember the burning oil fields of Kuwait that Saddam left behind?  That had more effect oil availability than anything going on in Syria today.

Most of this is simply lies and empty statements from a man who thinks Presidential power is measured by the size of his Twitter audience.  "ISIS SECURED!"?  Yeah, not quite:

The Australian Ambassador is talking about economic leadership.  There are other kinds of leadership we can't walk away from, either.
