And, as has been established, in making the decision to hold up aid to Ukraine, @realDonaldTrump overrode the unanimous advice of the Pentagon, the State Dept. and his own National Security team. It’s not helpful. It’s damning. https://t.co/UmqlFsPwZm— David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) November 19, 2019
I heard a GOP rep. (don't know which one) questioning Lt. Col. Vindman, and challenging his statements that he was the Ukraine expert in his position with the NSC. The clear import of the challenge was that Trump was the deciderer and the ultimate authority and the person with the absolute right to decide HE was the expert on Ukraine (Trump couldn't find Ukraine on a map even if that map was a RISK game board), and Vindman was a flunky way out over his skis who couldn't be trusted with lunch money because of his delusions of grandeur.
And this: the GOP was definitely trying to put Vindman in his place, and his place is not to question the Great and Powerful Trump:
He's an active duty military official who has been awarded a Purple Heart! https://t.co/dle3LUYeF7— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) November 19, 2019
In the context of Trump's presidency, this assault cum defense is really farcical.
The GOP defense of Trump now is that Trump is POTUS, and POTUS acts with impunity and free reign and free will and none dare question him. The only people with that kind of authority in the world are despots and tyrants. Oh, and fascists; GOP loves them some fascists.
