At this time, the party isn’t planning to require masks. https://t.co/AmKSg2bjZ6
Harris County, where Houston is located, has the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the state, but the Texas GOP plans to press forward with plans to hold an in-person convention from July 16-18 in the city’s George R. Brown Convention Center.
....
“The Republican Party isn't considered a commercial entity so they themselves are not required to comply with the mask order,” said Melissa Arredondo, a spokesperson for the office of Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, who issued the mask order.
But I'm pretty sure the Convention center is covered by the mask order, so we're preachin' it round and square.
Hidalgo and Sylvester Turner (Hizzoner of Our Fair City) are Democrats, even though the offices they hold are technically non-partisan. Abbott is a Republican, and as Governor has authority over the county and the city in these matters. So Harris County and Houston aren't looking for a fight; still, we're at the limits of our hospital capacity now, and that situation is not going to improve in two weeks. Besides, the GOP obviously chose Houston for their convention because they've lost it to the Democrats for at least a generation to come. Now, they wanna drive a stake into the heart of that, to be sure their chances in Harris County/Houston are well and truly dead?
'Cause that's where this is going.
What is it about Republicans and death wishes?
