System Failure

Market incentives push against spending money. “A penny saved is a penny earned.” The need to save money hardly overcomes the desire not to.

A condo tower is not a business earning income. It is a large, expensive, and jointly owned automobile. Like cars, buildings need maintenance. But if all the owners don’t agree to pay the bill, the car eventually stops running.

And what’s the incentive to get all the owners to pony up? What, frankly, is the sense of maintaining buildings like this? Freedom? Free market? You pays your money, you takes your chances?
