I remember tulips coming up through the snow on Easter, in southern Illinois. Only about 30 years ago.

Spent the next year in Chicago, where it was always really damned cold. Though I was told that was a mild winter.  Worst part was the municipal pool was at a steady 40F on the hottest day of the year. Which, to my Texas childhood, was a winter day.
