(I still say Trump is no real threat to democracy so long as he’s not in government. He’d be a bigger threat if he defied the judicial system and raised a flag over MAL with his face and the legend “COME AND TAKE IT” emblazoned thereon. And then declare himself a sovereign citizen and leader of Mar-A-Lagostan, and locked the gates and thumbed his nose at the authorities.
But he doesn’t. He spends tens of millions of dollars defending every lawsuit, thus acknowledging the authority of the courts. He acknowledges the validity of judgments against him by his appeals (and more $$$ spent). He acknowledges the authority of the court to lock him up, because he wants to be POTUS so they can’t (a loophole we really have to close, starting with changing the Supreme Court). Trump isn’t defying democracy, he wants to get his hands on it before it gets its hands on him. His election campaign is the problem. His criminal trials, and what he bleats about them, are not. His mouth says it’s all a scam and illegitimate.. His actions say otherwise. He’s not defying the power of the state. He’s scared to death of it.
