I was in the car all day, mostly listening to MSNBC because sometimes you want talk, not music. So I can affirm this is true:
Awful: News orgs are credulously amplifying the ugly idea that sending troops into LA is good politics for Trump. This gives his lawless abuses of power the aura of conventional politics, obscuring how extraordinary and dangerous this moment truly is.Even if not in the way Greg Sargent argues it.
“Conventional wisdom” abounded, even down to John Kasich criticizing Trump’s handling of LA, but also saying houses burning down was indefensible.
It is; but no houses were burned down in the 1 square mile of LA affected by the protests and the curfew (out of 500 square miles). Kasich was full of shit, but no one the rest of the day contradicted him. There was a lot of argument, all day long, that Trump thinks this is good for him (and how he could be right).
I’ve actually heard more critical thinking on 20 minutes of PBS Newshour.
New Quinnipiac poll:But Trump thinks tariffs are paid by countries importing to the United States, and that the economy is better than it’s ever been.
Trump’s approval:
Disapprove: 54%
Approve: 38%
Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill:
53% oppose
27% support
Handling of immigration:
54% disapprove
43% approve
Until those 55% tariffs are lifted, the shelves are not going to be restocked when they start going empty. Stores that would have already bought Christmas merchandise have nothing. And it’s too late to get it.
Happy days are here again.
