DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas?
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) June 5, 2025
LUTNICK: Generally 10%
DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8%
LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff
DEAN: We cannot build bananas in America pic.twitter.com/joZgWLND71
DEAN: Do you know when this country actually had a trade surplus?
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) June 5, 2025
LUTNICK: About a hundred years ago
DEAN: It was during the Great Depression. That's a direction none of us wants to go. pic.twitter.com/QYzXQizIRf
LUTNICK: I view letting the greatest dealmaker that the US has, let him make the deals. He is making the deals.
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) June 5, 2025
MORELLE: I'm certainly not the greatest dealmaker. I've never gone bankrupt on businesses I've been involved in. I'm not sure I'd rely on it. pic.twitter.com/guYZmMnLBm
DEAN: Did your department have any worry about the president growing his own business while on the job?
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) June 5, 2025
LUTNICK: My trip to the Middle East was extraordinary. It was amazing.
DEAN: I'm sure. I'm asking you, did the question of conflict of interest come up?
LUTNICK: No
DEAN:… pic.twitter.com/9nrWVyzujL
Trump:Lutnick: We could sign deals but they are only going to get better as we negotiate them
— Acyn (@Acyn) June 5, 2025
Dean: That’s simply not true.
Lutnick: I promise you it’s true because I am doing it
Dean: And Trump promised to bring down the cost of goods on day one. pic.twitter.com/6JNiwKKLee
Q: Have you uncovered evidence that anything was signed without Biden's knowledge?
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) June 5, 2025
TRUMP: I don't think Biden would know
Q: I'm asking if you've uncovered any information
TRUMP: No. But I've uncovered the human mind. I was in a debate with the human mind. pic.twitter.com/SnaDQGumjW
Trump: "You know, Ukraine had the most beautiful turrets. They call them turrets. The little towers. Beautiful towers. The most beautiful in the world. They're all now laying on their side." pic.twitter.com/E7PVRTRe2f

I follow Walter Brueggemann on FB, his family announced he passed away today. He was 92, so his passing shouldn't be a surprise, but I still find myself saddened by the news. If you use FB, you can leave condolences in the comments of the post.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I’m not on FB. But Brueggeman was known to many of my seminary professors from when he was Dean there. Of course, that was 30 years ago, so many of them might also be gone by now. Funny how rapidly time passes.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a paper on one of Brueggeman’s then-new books, in seminary. My professor sent it to him. WB sent back a note. I don’t think he quite understood my paper, but he went back to scriptural studies (I still have the book. It was more of an attempt at addressing contemporary culture.) I didn’t change his mind, but it was the closest I got to a conversation with him.
Thanks for letting me know. We stand on the shoulders of giants. He was one of them. May his memory be a blessing.
