  1. As of the last I heard, Democrats hadn't dumped Platner, though I would expect someone else will be on the ballot. I hope it's Troy Jackson of those I think it might be. Though if they have a better person to beat Susan Collins I hope that's who it is.
ABCD Anyone but Collins who is a Democrat is who I will be supporting and voting for.
I don't, by the way, find the latest accusation credible as I've seen it reported. She was certainly able to say it if it was true in January or February or last year, for that matter.

  2. I found it kind of strange/interesting that Platner was *not* appealing to the people he was supposed to be bringing into the D tent- working/middle class people are said to be fairly solidly behind Collins at this point. That seems to mean one or both of two things: 1) Collins is a lot stronger candidate than people are willing to give her credit for being and 2) while the character issues around Platner didn't seem to matter to Maine D primary voters they do matter to "normies".

There is something to it when Tom Nichols says the Rs can do things the Ds can't.

  3. Stephanie Ruhle said the same thing: Collins is formidable, especially having been in office for decades, now. And yeah, after Clinton, Democrats became more censorious (especially given the histories of JFK and LBJ).

I think the validity of the accusations might matter a bit more if Platner had any public office history. Being a complete unknown allows people to imagine the worst.
