Biden Redux

TAPPER: You said in June this was 'the strongest job market in your lifetime.' By what metric?

HASSETT: The bottom line is if you look at the overall economy, things are really booming

TAPPER: There have been job losses for a third of the months during Trump's second term. 2 million jobs were created in the last 18 months of Biden's presidency. Are you really arguing your numbers are better than that?

HASSETT: I disagree with your number. We'll have to follow up by email
All the pundits know that Biden did a poor job “messaging” his economic policies. Because only messaging matters.
President Donald Trump claimed from the Oval Office Thursday that gasoline was already selling for as little as $1.85 a gallon in Iowa, but a community note pointed out that the figure he cited was for E85, a niche ethanol blend available only to vehicles capable of using flex fuel. Iowa’s statewide average for regular gasoline was $3.79 a gallon as of August, according to the note, meaning Trump’s $1.85 figure does not reflect what most drivers are paying for regular gasoline.
Because nobody sees what they pay at the gas pump. They only know what Trump tells them from the Oval Office. 🙄 In the Biden Administration, the argument was that inflation was worse in Europe (it was). That didn’t make Americans feel any better.

Maybe Trump should tell us gas is even more expensive in Europe. 😜

Even though it won’t lower inflation, reduce the price of gasoline, or help you pay your bills. But whaddya want? Eggs in your beer?🍻

    Messaging certainly shouldn't matter. But as the failure of both Obama and Biden to trumpet their success and the Republicans and the likes of CNN taking the initiative to sandbag both of them shows, messaging does matter. The mass media in the modern era has made us a gullible and superficial People. I do not want another such modest Democratic president no matter how good they are otherwise.
    I don't want one who wants to be kew-el, one of Obama's faults.

    I’m not convinced (any longer) that “messaging” is the magic bullet. The statistics may say things are better, but that’s rather like saying the Dow is up, so the economy is good. I think the Biden recovery was real, but too damned slow. It showed up in the statistics, but but not in people’s lives. So Trump sold them snake oil, and proceeded to show why he never made an advance in Daddy’s money, and why he bankrupted a casino. And an airline; and a football team; and almost every venture he ever put his name on.

    He’s finally made money as a second term POTUS peddling access it isn’t all that clear all buyers are getting. He’s a con man, which only means more fool us.
