Says it all. Max Miller's Tasting History Youtube program had beans fried with onions, a dish from a medieval monk's menu. I pointed out I did something like that only instead of poudre douce, I coated the beans with a little flour before I fried them with the oil and onions and used savory seasoning with that, though sometimes I just use a little salt, If the vegan option suggested above is something.
I’m about as far west of the Gulf Coast as you can be, and still be in Texas but not in El Paso. Nextdoor to the Big Bend, actually, and it’s safe to say everyone around here is FURIOUS about the Big Bend border wall, and voted accordingly.
