I just heard about this on KPFT, so there may not be any links available yet (although it was reported on Democracy Now! this morning), but there are efforts underway to set up an LPFM (Low Power FM) radio station in the Astrodome specifically to get information to the people living there.
The FCC approved a license for this in one day. Local donations supplied 10,000 "Walkman" style radios (not boom boxes, in other words), and while Harris County officials have been dragging their feet (shades of FEMA!), apparently word has come from Sens. John McCain and Kaye Bailey Hutchison, as well as the Mayor's office, to: "Git 'er done!"
This will be a boon to the people living in "Dome City" right now, who need/want/must have information about housing, Social Security, registering children for school, finding family members, etc., etc., etc.
