Either that, or we aren't paying enough?"There will be some sacrifice on the part of Americans, I grant you that. But also that sacrifice is pretty minimal compared to the sacrifices that our soldiers make overseas that are fallen heroes or laid to rest," @SenTomCotton on trade war with China pic.twitter.com/lqlEZtaeBs— CBS This Morning (@CBSThisMorning) May 13, 2019
And yes, this pretty much is the logical end of the "Thank-God-For-The-Military-Because-Freedom-Is-Not-Free" bullshit that is really about as un-American as Donald Trump's ambitions to be King. The twin legacies of Vietnam: we need a strong leader to protect us from the hordes of brown people who won't respect our military technology, and we need to pay for our national sins when we collectively spat on returning Vietnam soldiers. (No, neither of those things happened, but those seem to be the lessons we learned.)
Blame the Boomers all you want; it was their parents who insisted those "dirty hippies" cost us the war, and then insisted freedom was not "free." Just as the hippies became yuppies and taught their children the market is a great green god which will provide for all their needs, as long as they sacrifice everything (including society and the planet) to it.
Yeah, I'm gettin' cranky.....
Had to burn down the farms to save 'em.
ReplyDeleteThat should resonate with us Boomers.
