1) Trump's lawyers say soliciting foreign help in rigging the 2020 election is fine.— Greg Sargent (@ThePlumLineGS) October 10, 2019
2) Trump says the impeachment inquiry is illegitimate.
Thus:
3) Trump's *explicit* position is that he is constrained by *no* legitimate mechanism of accountability:https://t.co/IcdnDuXF5u
Very well then, I repeat myself. This is largely what the public understands about "Ukraine" and Trump and impeachment. IMHO, of course. Not coincidentally:
At 2pm est, 46 years ago today, 10/10/73, VP Spiro Agnew shocked the country by showing up in Fed. Court to resign & then plead “nolo contendre” to a felony tax evasion charge & The first of three incredible docs from that day, Nixon writes an official goodbye letter to him.. 1/ pic.twitter.com/G5BwNCtLdq— Spiro Agnew’s Ghost (@SpiroAgnewGhost) October 10, 2019
Agnew's resignation was not connected to Watergate directly, but it was of a piece. Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974, almost 10 months to the day after Agnew resigned. People who didn't understand the entire cast of characters in Watergate, or what they had allegedly done, didn't need a weatherman to know which was the wind was blowing. This brief bit of context helps explain why:
46 yrs ago this afternoon, 10/10/73. after months of bluster & lies, attacks on the FBI, Attorney General, U.S. Attorneys office, media, dozens of witnesses including those he extorted, VP Spiro Agnew resigned and plead to a tax evasion felony in Fed. Court. The rule of law wins. pic.twitter.com/iZXHEi2WJt— Spiro Agnew’s Ghost (@SpiroAgnewGhost) October 10, 2019
It's the lawlessness, stupid.
