Time to put this to bed. We are a FEDERAL republic. Much of what people want to see at a nationwide level could only be done by the states individually. And trust, you do not want POTUS gaining a precedent enabling him to assume a vast new breadth of federal power. https://t.co/qQ0H1SzZzo— Rogue POTUS Staff (@RoguePOTUSStaff) March 16, 2020
W. suspended domestic flights immediately after 9/11. Probably international as well, my memory is fuzzy on that. There was a story on NPR recently about a couple who made life long friends in Newfoundland (or was it Nova Scotia?) following the grounding of all flights, so it must have included international flights, too, think to come of it.
Trump already has vast and fully precedented powers. Like FDR, he could order internment camps again (thought I don't think the courts would uphold them as readily). Like W., he could ground all air flights. But does he want to?
Economist Kevin Hassett, who served as the chairman President Donald Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers, shocked CNN’s Poppy Harlow on Monday by issuing dire predictions about the state of the American economy.
During an interview on CNN, Hassett warned that there was a 95 percent chance of the American economy contracting this quarter and said there was a chance that the United States could lose up to 1 million jobs next month alone.
Just to underline that:The S&P 500 sunk 8%, triggering the third trading halt for U.S. stocks in the last six trading sessions. They are set to reopen in 15 minutes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 9.7%. The Nasdaq Composite Index was lower by 6%. https://t.co/Whort2ZOcD via @WSJ— Michael C. Bender (@MichaelCBender) March 16, 2020
It's 10am on Monday morning, and all the gains made under Trump in the stock market since his inauguration--touted by he and his sycophants--have evaporated. Three years of gains. Gone.— Charlotte Clymer 🏳️🌈 (@cmclymer) March 16, 2020
Meanwhile, the POTUS puts on a happy face:
Just a wild guess, but I'd say the answer is: "No." Mostly because he doesn't want the responsibility:Everybody is so well unified and working so hard. It is a beautiful thing to see. They love our great Country. We will end up being stronger than ever before!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 16, 2020
NEWS: Trump told the governors on conf call this am that they should get their own ventilators, per recording of call— Jonathan Martin (@jmartNYT) March 16, 2020
“We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves"
More here, including his prediction on what more the FED may do >>>>https://t.co/bNWWRVubzE
Or taking the trouble to sort out even the major details, much less the minor ones (recalling how carefully they worked out the plan to ban all flights from Europe, and the consequences of that announcement).
