The next grand jury no-bill is on the horizon:
President Donald Trump is expected to fire the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia after his office was unable to find incriminating evidence of mortgage fraud against New York Attorney General Letitia James, according to sources.Since Siebert won’t do it, someone else has to.
Federal prosecutors in Virginia had uncovered no clear evidence to prove that James had knowingly committed mortgage fraud when she purchased a home in the state in 2023, ABC News first reported earlier this week, but Trump officials pushed U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert to nevertheless bring criminal charges against her, according to sources.
The decision to fire Siebert could throw into crisis one of the most prominent U.S. attorney's offices, which handles a bulk of the country's espionage and terrorism cases, and heighten concerns about Trump's alleged use of the DOJ to target his political adversaries. And hot on the heels of that travesty:
Trump nominated Siebert for the position in May. Sources familiar with the matter said that the administration now plans to install a U.S. attorney who would more aggressively investigate James.
According to the officials, who spoke with journalist Ken Klippenstein in a report published Thursday, the FBI is preparing to label transgender suspects under a new threat category dubbed “Nihilistic Violent Extremists,” a replacement designation for the Biden administration’s “Anti-Authority and Anti-Government Violent Extremists" threat category, established in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.Theoretically, we can replace the entire House, and 1/3rd of the Senate, and get that idiot out before he does even more damage.
Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.
That the idiot is in office at all is on us, and we failed because we let the party system that generally protected us from complete morons, collapse after it brought us Nixon and the “secret plan to end the war.” But then, the party system brought us Vietnam in the first place. And after Nixon we got Reagan, and Shrub, and Trump; and an unbroken line of abuse of power by GOP Administrations (Nixon, Reagan, Bush, Shrub, Trump). It’s the descent of the Presidency, and we haven’t figured that out, yet.
The glory years of the 20th century were five successive terms of Democratic presidents. LBJ would have made it six, if not for the “Best and the Brightest” Kennedy brought with him from Harvard (speaking generally). And yet, here we are, constantly changing parties in the Oval because we’re told it’s “better for democracy.” Told by…the best and the brightest.
When will we ever learn?
