“It’s Not A Lie If You Believe It”

In response to this (on BlueSky):
At this point, I wonder if he isn't lying when he says he has "my highest Poll Numbers, ever" since it's entirely possible that's what his aides are telling him. It's quite likely that there's an entire Potemkin village built around Trump right now.
And in response to that:
oh this is absolutely what i think. i think they feed him fake polls and outright AI slop
Is the alternative too terrible to contemplate? That Trump is just demented AF? That his narcissistic ego won’t allow him to accept, much less admit, failure? That he sees polls in Fox News and declares them
“FAKE!” and so reassures himself the sun rises every morning just to warm him up?

By the way: does it occur to no one that the reason Trump jets off to MAL for the week (on our dime) is in no small part because he can charge the government for housing and feeding his Secret Service entourage?

There’s certainly no reason for him not to be in the house we provide for him.

He can be demented AF and still be grifting. After all, he thinks Jared is a valuable member of his diplomatic corps, and that Witkoff is an artist of the deal. If that’s not enough to prove Trump is demented (in the practical sense, if not the medical one), what is?

I guess it’s just more comforting to imagine a band of sycophants trying to keep Trump happy. I remember the same wishful thinking as it became obvious to a child that Reagan was losing his reason (such as it ever was) to Alzheimer’s.

So it goes.

  1. I should think the answer is "both"- that as his mind continues to go and he becomes more and more difficult to manage, and his popularity declines, they try to keep him on some sort of even keel by making sure he has a steady diet of "positive" news that doesn't bear a lot of resemblance to the reality *we* live in

so far as the grifting... well, he will have *that* when he has nothing else left. At his funeral I fully expect him to climb out of his casket and try to sell gimcracks to the rubes in attendance
