... ain’t so feral, and it ain’t so cunning.
I don’t actually blame WalMart here (I’m no fan, I never shop there, but fair is fair). Grocery prices are rising, WalMart is trying to lure customers. Sure, customers won’t find prices are that much lower, especially if they don’t limit themselves to WalMart’s fifteen, lower quality items. But what if they do? Times is hard. Which is what WalMart sales always prove. WalMart is no bulwark against capitalist greed. You always have to shop carefully there to get the “low prices” they advertise. Like any large retailer, they always depend on loss-leaders and bait and switch ads to get people to spend more money there.Their advertising is no more reliable a gauge than Trump’s pronouncements on reality.
It’s Trump using that advertising as if it were a real government statistic that’s disgusting. What, Commerce and Agriculture wouldn’t conspire to cook the books for him? Or is he too stupid to read government reports, so he haunts advertisers for his information? Biden’s fatal flaw was thinking the Inflation Reduction Act was a magic wand that had cured all the nation’s economic ills. If only reality were that compliant. Trump’s fatal flaw is, he’s a complete idiot.
And that schtick has stopped working for him. Completely.
In the national scene it’s not noticeable, but a local school district (in the Houston area) belatedly elected their slate of right-wing, MAGA wannabe, school board members a while back. Hilarity ensued as they tore chapters out of textbooks and fired librarians and otherwise had their way. One of them was the former principal of The Golden Child’s high school, who went away to go full bore crazy. Three incumbent board members ran as a package, to consolidate power and promise more of the same. They were poured out like water on Tuesday, replaced by much more moderate candidates.
I think everyone is tired of that schtick.
Speaking of statistics:
Maybe Trump can tell them their lives are actually better.
A friend who is a town official in a Republican majority town told me that a large majority voted against MAGA vote suppression and for a red-flag law, he said he was really stunned by how fed up lots of Republicans seem to be with MAGA around here, Course, a lot of them are federal employees who are working but aren't getting paid just now, that doesn't help Trump and the MAGATs.
ReplyDeleteI expect voters are finding lots of reasons to throw out the MAGAts.
