I want to point out Tolkien’s essay on Beowulf convinced scholars that the text we have is a Christian version of the original. It was also Tolkien who introduced C.S.Lewis to Xianity, something I try not to hold against J.R.R. (The passage of time has just deepened my conviction about how truly wretched Lewis’ theology is.)
