Question:

If you were to blow up the Capitol building during the State of the Union, killing all inside, would you have taken over the federal government of the United States?

That’s the premise of “Designated Survivor,” where the lowest person in the line of succession (AgSec, IIRC) is not in the building at the time. Congress is gone; the POTUS, VPOTUS, and Cabinet are gone. The TV series is about how the government continues and recovers.

Trump didn’t take out the Venezuelan government, nor disband the military. I think he’s going to be quite surprised at what he didn’t do. He didn’t even leave boots on the ground.

The POTUS is an unreliable narrator. Isn’t there a cognitive dissonance between calling him delusional, and saying he’s “speaking the quiet part out loud”? He didn’t even tell Congress what he’s doing. I don’t know that he’s briefed anyone in Congress on what he did. And now?
Sure he is. Trump also thinks the Chair of the Fed sets interest rates by fiat. Five years in, he still has no idea how government works. He has no idea what that means. We’ll have to see if Congress decides to get off its backside now. I’m sure they’re waiting for the polling results.

  1. I would be surprised if there is any meaningful boost for Trump out of all this. I am a little surprised how many people on the "left" are taking what he says about the oil at face value on this, when they don't on anything else. As you have said, Trump is the toddler with the shotgun- and it's very bad when he pulls the trigger, but he doesn't do it as part of a Master Plan any deeper than "I want". He never has- his whole business career was one scammy and badly managed fiasco after another and managing to scam his way into the Presidency doesn't suddenly give him magical powers.

    1. He’s also the guy who keeps telling us inflation is down, tariffs are saving the economy, and he saved LA and Portland and Chicago, and D.C. All evidence to the contrary. It’s not the 1950’s anymore. Venezuela is not going to become a fiefdom of Big Oil, nor is its oil all coming to the USA. Oil is a global market, something Trump has never understood. He thinks it’s still 1970. He’s turning the clock back from there.

  2. And boost? No. Trump gets nothing from this, except the same question Biden got; “What have you done for us lately?”
