Yes. Very Normal

Since the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, there have been at least six book burnings for the series on record in the U.S.

And that was as of 2017. There have been more since then.

In 2020, burning her books was advocated by people upset with her comments about LGBTQ persons.

So, yeah, this is normal. Sadly.

  1. I can't imagine an author getting upset if they bought all of the copies of the book they burned, I'd be thrilled and hope they burned a lot of them. I think the fissure in the HP "community" with the author is one of the more bizarre things in pop culture. I don't think I'd have enjoyed reading the books to my nieces so much if I'd realized how the fantasies over it would take over so many peoples' lives. Well, that and college students playing quidditch when they can't fly and neither can the balls.
