“Do I Look Like A Guy With A Plan?”

I’m pretty sure Amy Walter says this every four years:

“There’s substantial disappointment, even disbelief, that this is going to be the choice,” says Amy Walter, editor of nonpartisan Cook Political Report. “Swing voters would rather eat a bowl of glass than have to choose between Trump and Biden again.”
OTOH, this is not a strategy:
Trump’s Spokesperson on his testimony today: “President Trump schooled everybody on how business actually works.”
Because this is not a man capable of formulating a strategy:
In response to a question about the Ukraine war, Trump explains why windmills are the source of all evil in the world.
I’m sure that, too, was “planned.”

More and more Trump is the Joker at the end of “The Dark Knight,” when he’s accused of having a plan. “Do I look like a guy with a plan?,” he asks. The Joker is nothing more than a chaos agent; chaos is the opposite of a plan, and scarier still because it cannot be predicted. Trump is a chaos agent because (IMHO), chaos puts him at the center and, he thinks, leaves him in control. Not because chaos is a plan, but because Trump is utterly incapable of planning. He’s always been able to lead with his wallet (what, his multiple wives thought he was Warren Beatty’s twin brother?), and now that’s not working anymore. His bombast won’t work either.

And yet some people still think he’s a man with a plan. That says something about them, actually.

  1. Amy and I are both Colby '91. I only graduated cum laude, she was summa. I still think I understand the world better than she.
