So let me get this straight. Democrats all have to publicly denounce Hasan Piker, even if they don’t really know who he is, have never met him, & never listened to his show, but it’s totally fine for JD Vance to be best friends with Tucker Carlson despite all the shit he’s said?

Tucker Carlson is old news. He’s fish wrap. Even his little meeting with MTG and other has beens didn’t resuscitate interest in him. Nobody cares. And “nobody” = political pundits and news talk hosts.

By contrast, Hasan Piker is fresh meat. Asking politicians about him (hem hem, Kristen Welker) makes you sound like you’re deep in the know about people the general public has never heard of (bonus points if it’s a hot topic on political Twitter, because then all the kewl kids will talk about you there). 

99.9% of political reporting/punditry is gossip. QED.
