'Find an immediate solution:' Trump demands Alabama preserve IVF after court ruling https://t.co/pwjqrpl63p

"Today, I am calling on the Alabama Legislature to act quickly to find an immediate solution to preserve the availability of IVF in Alabama," Trump wrote on Truth Social platform Frida. "We want to make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder! That includes supporting the availability of fertility treatments like IVF in every State in America."
"The Republican Party should always be on the side of the Miracle of Life - and the side of Mothers, Fathers, and their Beautiful Babies," he wrote. "IVF is an important part of that, and our Great Republican Party will always be with you, in your quest, for the ULTIMATE JOY IN LIFE!"The Alabama legislature can repeal the law the Supreme Court relied on to decide frozen zygotes (not embryos. My high school science understanding is that multi-celled organisms can’t be frozen. A zygote is a fertilized egg. After about 4 days it begins to divide, and becomes a blastocyst. Only later still is it complex enough to be an embryo. These things should actually matter to the discussion, but there we are.). That’s a possibility, but the Court also relied on a recent amendment to the Alabama Constitution, approved by the voters. The Legislature can’t change that.
And the Alabama Supreme Court is still peopled with religious fanatics, probably elected by the same people who thin Trump is a Christian and a leader raised up by God. There’s really nothing to keep them from overruling any attempt to remove their definition of personhood from Alabama law. Not before November, anyway. And that’s the real problem for Republicans: this definition of personhood is embraced by the one that brung them, and Trump, to this party. And like they say in the Texas Lege (hat tip to Molly Ivins, may she rest in peace), you got to dance with the one what brung ya.
Be careful what you ask for, in other words. You just might get it.
