Newsom: What more evidence do we need of how weak Trump is that he would send these folks to the exact same location at the exact same time to intimidate, in a sign of weakness masquerading as strength, people who not only showed up but those that are speaking up to defend our democracy.
A judge released 37-year-old Sean Dunn — a former Department of Justice employee — on his own recognizance, despite prosecutors pushing for serious felony assault charges that could carry up to eight years in prison. He was armed with a sandwich! I hope the 20 (count ‘em, twenty!) officers were armed with sneeze guards. Those buns are not to be trifled with. And the condiments! O, the condiments!
Prosecutors say video posted to Instagram shows the incident Sunday night near 14th and U Street NW. Court documents allege Dunn verbally confronted federal officers before tossing his sandwich at one officer from close range.
Police say Dunn admitted to the act, telling officers, “I did it. I threw the sandwich.”
He first appeared in the D.C. Superior Court on Monday, where a judge released him. But two days later, prosecutors obtained a new arrest warrant — this time in federal court. Dunn’s attorney says he tried to turn himself in, but instead, 20 officers came to his home to arrest him.
In court, the defense revealed Dunn served in the U.S. Air Force and had worked for the DOJ before being fired after the incident. His attorney argued no one was injured, calling the felony charge excessive.
The judge agreed to release Dunn while he awaits trial. His next court date is Sept. 4.
And now a dangerous man walks free among the people of our Capital. Free to arm himself with a hamburger, or a salad ! Or a banana! Are our police trained to defend themselves against a banana? π He might commit another felony with a handful of grapes.π
If he can afford them.
