Put Me In Cold! ⚾️

The whole screed can’t be read, but the upshot is: Trump is a nincompoop. He imagines every organization is, like Trump ,
Co., a sole proprietorship. So the Comissioner of Baseball can just follow Trump’s commands, one absolute boss to another. Which, as Trump alludes, is what the Commissioner did for Pete Rose.

Except after Rose died, the Commissioner allowed the HOF to consider him, posthumously, for admission. Whether it was connected, however attenuated by time, to Trump’s demand is irrelevant. What’s relevant is that Trump has no idea how people are elected to the Baseball HOF.

According to Google AI (close enough for highway work, but still:
Trust, but verify.). So I’m not verifying Google AI , but this isn’t a big matter of trust, either.

Basically, Google AI tells me there are two committees that decide who is worthy of the honor. One is for players for five years. The other is for players retired longer, basically. The latter commission has several subcommittees for different areas. This all runs off into the weeds pretty quickly, but I think the ERA committee exists to consider players who never got past their he Baseball Writers committee. I say that because once a player is on the ballot, he’s on for 10 years, effectively. If he hasn’t cleared the threshold vote by then, he’s dropped.

That’s not really an adequate explanation, but you get the idea. Getting into the HOF is not one person’s decision. And I imagine members of either committee (or the subcommittees) would take it as a point of pride not to even appear to bend the knee to Trump.

None of this amounts to a hill of beans, except maybe to Roger Clemens. Further review reveals he has other paths to entry, through the ERA committees. It would be ironic if they declined to take up his case because Trump is bigfooting the issue. Given the HOF’s emphasis on character, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how they responded.

But the key point here is that Trump thinks this just a question of demand and response, that he can force this matter by sheer …well, bullying. He can’t understand there are people involved who likely don’t give a shit what he demands. I m not sure he even understands there are people involved, and votes that must be cast.

Which throws a different light on his concept of voting.  That is, he has no real concept of it.
