Plus the very bad new fact that PRECEDES these bad facts: “Mr. Trump went through the boxes himself in late 2021, according to multiple people briefed on his efforts, before turning over” the first batch in January https://t.co/7oXPgYa0e2

300 classified documents. Intel from the CIA (HUMINT), NSA (SIGINT), FBI (CI cases, possibly ongoing). Unknown people accessing and moving from one location to another. Concealed them and lied about it.

Trump’s defenders understand that this is going to get WAY worse, right?

HUMINT = human intelligence aka spy stuff
SIGINT= Signals intelligence aka intercepting communications
CI= counterintelligence aka stopping foreign spies
Trump compromised national security in a way I have never seen in my life. https://t.co/RhINERQWOD
Well, that and Trump is no longer the Executive who can claim the privilege.11/ The point of executive privilege is to ensure that the president can have frank conversations with his advisors.

What's odd about raising executive privilege in this context is that the branch of government that seized the documents is ... the Executive Branch.
I continue to be baffled why Trump didn’t claim and stick to a mistake of fact defense. I didn’t know they belonged to the gov. I didn’t know they were there. I thought I gave them back. NOT that it’s a winning defense, but way better than just confessing to it all like he is now

Just reupping this bc it’s relevant to Trump’s latest filing, and also bc I think it will become an evergreen tweet https://t.co/5ZXzaBD8Aq

I know there’s still the issue of classified documents becoming evidence at trial, but I think the precedent of a POTUS taking documents with little consequence is a greater threat. So, we’ll see.I think it’s worth reminding anyone who cares that Trump doesn’t even hold a security clearance
