As COVID cases surge, TX Lt Gov Dan Patrick says he will no longer listen to Anthony Fauci: "I don't need his advice anymore" pic.twitter.com/8w6mdCpLhN— Jason Campbell (@JasonSCampbell) July 1, 2020
The population density of New York City barely compares to any city in this country. Houston has the lowest population density of any city in the country, and yet we have over 31,000 cases. Houston reported 6975 new cases as of June 30.
Texas skipped over ALL of the metrics established by the CDC, and is now struggling to close the bars again and reduce how many customers a restaurant can accomodate. All the major urban counties and cities are asking for authority from the Governor to mandate mask wearing in public (at present only businesses are mandated to require masks in their stores, or face a fine for non-compliance). California's problems are because they reopened, not because they stayed closed. New York's problems were because the virus was there long before anyone thought it was, and had come from Europe.

In fact, what planet is Patrick on?

It wasn't the governor who told old people to throw themselves on the funeral pyre so the economy could recover. It isn't Dan Patrick who's offering to make any sacrifice for his positions: he's quite happy to see other people make sacrifices on behalf of his great green god. We can't make the Lite Guv sacrifice his office in November; his term's not up yet. Hopefully we can put a Democratic Senate in the Capitol building, and he can wrestle with them in January. That would be a fine punishment for his many public sins.
As in TX/FL/GA a central component of the AZ story is that the R gov not only opened early & widely in response to Trump's cues, but has specifically blocked local D officials who raised concerns from acting to restrict or reconsider his decisions (exc belatedly allowing masks). https://t.co/WGuG4bqD25— Ronald Brownstein (@RonBrownstein) July 1, 2020
Fauci told Congress the country could see 100,000 coronavirus cases daily. Is that a price Dan Patrick is willing to have someone else pay? That seems to be his argument.
I really don't think this ends the way Patrick thinks it does.
