Breaking: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has issued a nearly statewide mask mandate.— Texas Tribune (@TexasTribune) July 2, 2020
The order requires "all Texans to wear a face covering over the nose and mouth in public spaces in counties with 20 or more positive COVID-19 cases, with few exceptions." https://t.co/i8aKmUZIxx
It is worth noting:
... in Harris County, an April emergency proclamation mandating face coverings led to so much backlash — including a lawsuit against the county judge — that officials amended a draft of the order to eliminate jail time as a potential threat for noncompliance. Not wearing a face covering could only lead to a hefty fine, though Abbott’s order overruled any penalties associated with the mandate hours after it went into effect.and now:
First-time offenders of Abbott's order will receive a written or verbal warning. Those who violate the order a second time will receive a fine of up to $250. Every subsequent violation is punishable also by a fine of up to $250. The order specifies that no one can get jail time for a violation.
