This is stunning, even for The Federalist. pic.twitter.com/gCia5HSRPs— Alexander Nazaryan (@alexnazaryan) April 3, 2020
I suppose we can still build a wall around the city?
BREAKING/NEW: 562 new deaths in NY since yesterday morning.— Jesse McKinley (@jessemckinley) April 3, 2020
Largest single day toll in state.
Although I think it's a little late for that. Maybe wall off the entire state?
Now it's just 7 https://t.co/fQGRmQ5o89— Christopher Heath (@CHeathWFTV) April 3, 2020
But then what do we do about Florida? California? Washington state? Georgia? Alabama? Texas? Louisiana? Colorado?
I post that picture not to bash the residents of NYC (a truly marvelous city; a great place to visit, etc.), but because I read the Federalist article. The argument, in a nutshell, is that NYC is the epicenter of the world and of the virus in this nation, that "the virus will eventually spread from New York and inevitably infect the suburbs, exurbs, and rural areas." Except it already has. Oddly, the author cites the "success" of Washington state in curbing the spread of the virus. And how did they do that? The very suppression of their economy he decries as a national measure because we cannot destroy the country in order to save NYC.
Let me hasten to assure him Harris County, Texas (3rd largest county by population in the nation, I understand) has not shut down until May, stopped all schools, cancelled all public gatherings, and closed all stores in order to save New York City. No matter what the view looks like from 9th Avenue.
