I saw this tweet but missed the reference. So Trump actually pardoned Susan B. Anthony?
Why?
Based on Trump's tweets this morning, Democrats might want to consider having Michelle Obama speak every night. She clearly struck a nerve.— Robert Maguire (@RobertMaguire_) August 18, 2020
There's that, to be sure. But this is what Trump said at the pardoning (?) ceremony (?):
She was [in] over her head,” Trump said during a pardoning ceremony for Susan B. Anthony. “And frankly, she should have made the speech live which she didn’t do. She taped it and it was not only taped, it was taped a long time ago because she had the wrong [COVID-19] deaths.”
Does he really want to draw attention to the fact the covid deaths are higher now than just a few days or weeks ago? Or to what a schoolyard bully he is? "No puppet, no puppet, you're the puppet!" The updated version is "I'm not divisive! You're divisive!" You know the retort of "you are too!" (the fancy label is tu quoque) is really the weakest possible. It also just reinforces what Ms. Obama said.

TRUMP: Even more, actually! https://t.co/4Sq7dN2QDl
And of course he stepped all over the significance of this "pardon":
The president complained that the former first lady “gets these fawning reviews.”
“If you gave a real review, it wouldn’t be so fawning,” he continued. “I thought it was a very divisive speech, extremely divisive. We have a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for my campaign.”
He has to say that so that it's true. And "real reviews" are the ones that say he's great and never fails. All others are "fake."
“I thought her speech was very divisive and, frankly, I wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for Barack Obama,” he insisted. “See, we’re standing in the White House. I wouldn’t be in the White House except for Barack Obama because they did a bad job — Biden and Obama. And if they did a good job, I wouldn’t be here. I’d be building buildings someplace and having a good time.”Sure, whatever. But this "pardon." What, "the ladies will love this," he thought? Roger Stone would like a word from under the bus that just ran him down:

Michelle Obama was right; it can only get worse.
