'I'm not an alcoholic -- I'm a functioning': Rudy Giuliani denies he was drunk during rambling 9/11 speech https://t.co/N7otfiIjIy

I was going to leave this alone as cheap and idle gossip; but it was a public event, and, well:
‘Yes I had a Scotch. But I was not drunk. There is a deliberate attempt [by] the left wing to paint me that way,’ he told DailyMail.com in an interview Sunday evening.
He also denied mocking the Queen when he made comments, captured on video, where he adopted a faux English accent and said: ‘You did a wonderful job on Sept. 11. And therefore I’m making you an honorary knight, commander of the royal something or other.'
Because then he went on, to the Daily Mail:
‘That was a serious speech. To say I mocked anybody is outrageous. And that I was drunk is completely, completely wrong,’ said Giuliani.
Yeah, sure it was. And what is it about guys from NYC? Is it something in the water?
‘I am without a doubt the most accomplished prosecutor of the 20th Century,’ he said, pointing to his earlier career in the Southern District of New York, where he served as a US attorney, and where he is now under investigation.
Whatever, Rudy. Those days are long, long gone.
Giuliani said the idea that he was mocking the Queen is ‘an interpretation that’s totally unfair. I use an English accent.’
He said that when receiving an honorary knighthood he told the Queen he rested on the shoulders of giants, and she responded to him that: “That’s why you’re such a great leader.” It was a beautiful interchange.’
‘And I have never mocked it. I just like to use an English – I imitate Churchill sometimes.'
The former New York City mayor and Donald Trump lawyer also addressed his comments Saturday night about Prince Andrew, which he brought up unprompted during his speech.
‘Never had a drink with him, never was with a woman or young girl with him. Ever, ever, ever,’ Giuliani said during his speech.
Classy, Rudy; very classy.
He said he did not know when he made the comment that it had been reported that the royal had been served with legal papers.
He just thought of the Prince because he was talking about the queen? Just random association? Sure, Rudy.
The most Trumpian (or is it white male NYC resident?) moment of the interview comes when he denies being an alcoholic:
Giuliani bristled when asked to explain a comment he made last month to NBC, where he also denied having a drinking problem and called himself ‘functioning,’ amid anonymous comments by former White House aides about his alleged drinking.
‘I'm not an alcoholic,’ Giuliani told the network. ‘I’m a functioning, I probably function more effectively than 90 percent of the population.’
He recoiled when DailyMail.com asked if he had been making a connection to the term ‘functioning alcoholic.’
‘I’m not an alcoholic. I use the word functioning, I don’t know why I used the word functioning. I am not an alcoholic. I am 77 years old. I’ve never been an alcoholic. I’ve never been treated for alcoholism. I have worked every day of my life. The longest time I ever took off was for COVID.
'If I was an alcoholic, I’d be fricking dead by now. It is [a] complete lie. I’m on television all the time. I’m as lucid as you can be. I’m not demented like Joe Biden. I can go before the Supreme Court … I have already many times. I write. I do a podcast twice a week. I do a radio show … five times a week. I answer questions from people constantly. I’m probably one of the sharpest guys you’re ever going to meet. And you want to put me in a court room and I’ll kick the s*** out of anybody. I am not an alcoholic.’
He said the word ‘functioning’ has ’10 other meanings. I’m not even sure of what the significance of using that word is. Am I a functioning alcoholic? No. I’m a fully functioning human being. About as fully functional as you can find. I think I usually work about 16 hours a day. And it’s outrageous that people are doing this to me. But it’s because I’m defending Donald Trump. That’s the reason they’re doing it. Nobody ever did this to me two years ago. I was the G-man of the year two years ago. I am without a doubt the most accomplished prosecutor of the 20th Century. Without doubt. There’s no question about it,’ he said.
Yeah, that's why.
And please note he cares very much about his reputation, while at the same time he doesn't care about his accusers’ statements at all:
‘I prosecuted more people successfully, the heads of the mafia, Teamsters Union, took them apart, Ivan Boesky, [Michael] Milken, Wall Street, about 100 crooked politicians, terrorists. I even prosecuted two Nazis and had them sentenced to death. .. Nobody has a record like mine. And it’s outrageous. And the reason my allegations against Biden mean something is because I actually a professional. I caught him because I’m better than the rest of them. Plus, I had a pair of balls and they all know what would happen to them. They all knew what would happen to them – you get crucified. And I actually don’t give a damn if those idiots crucify me. But I’m not going to be called an alcoholic when I can prove that I’m not. I’m just getting tired of that.’
He also had words for Gen. Mark Milley, former Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in his public speech:
‘How’s that guy a general?’ Giuliani said, slamming Milley and the Biden administration for the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, calling it ‘freaking insane.’
The former mayor, who most recently served as former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, lashed out at Milley and the administration for withdrawing from the Bagram air base in Afghanistan.
Giuliani then describes how he would approach Milley if he saw him in person.
'I wanted to grab his stars and shove it down his throat and say, "It's 400 miles from China, a-hole! China is going to be our enemy for the next 40 years! You have an airbase 400 miles from them and you're giving it up? Idiot!” Giuliani said.
'What the hell is wrong with you? Who pays you?'
Giuliani added: 'Christ!'
I mean, the old guy's entitled to his opinion, but what does this have to do with commemorating 9/11 and Rudy's glory day as "America's Mayor"?
I dunno. The Daily Mail has the full video; or you can watch this much:
Somebody get the guy some help. This is pathetic.I’m not sure I have ever seen someone give a speech at a formal occasion as drunk as Rudy Giuliani is right now at the 9/11 dinner. pic.twitter.com/54G5oCuBe3
