I saw these numbers earlier (yeah, I don’t care about the ad), and the fact McConaghey is leading Beto and Abbott tells you a lot about Texas politics.Despite @GovAbbott’s best efforts, millions of Texans are seeing a Lincoln Project ad critical of Abbott’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local media outlets throughout Texas are now covering the ad, as well as Abbott’s falling approval numbers.

Nobody knows what Matthew’s politics are. He’s a blank slate. So of course he’s popular. And Abbott has always had numbers closer to Trump’s. But this is Texas, and most people will vote for the one who’s not a Democrat.
I’ll say again: nobody knows what McConaghey’s politics are; or his party affiliation. Expect his approval to change dramatically the moment he announces which party nomination he's running for; and again when he has to say what he actually wants to do as Governor.
It's not over 'til it's over.
