Or we all descend into children throwing fits for the benefit of our "supporters". What Durbin did is not this:A sequence from Jackson's hearing that highlights a deep problem of our politics
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) March 23, 2022
1 Graham smears Jackson as aiding child pornographers
2 Durbin debunks Graham's claims with context and facts
3 Graham storms out
Good faith arguments won't persuade bad faith operators like Graham pic.twitter.com/q8NPUxRoPe
What Sen. Leahy did is the right response (too, also, as well):๐ Stop pretending bad faith is good faith for the purposes of “politeness” or “dialogue.”

Again, the situation in Ukraine has changed the context of the discussion. The President of Ukraine is acting like a leader representing the best interests of the people of his country. Those people are fighting, valiantly, for their lives, liberties, and the right of self-determination. Hissy fits by sitting Senators does not elevate them to heroes on the international stage, or even on the national stage. Let them pout like spoiled children. Let them storm out the room because they don't get their way. It's a represntative government, and some of our fellow citizens are petulant children, too. Move on. Sens. Durbin and Leahy aren't trying to have "dialogue" with the antics of Graham or Hawley or Cruz. But we don't have to mimic the behavior of children either. That doesn't defeat them; that let's them win..@SenatorLeahy calls Senator Graham outrageous: "You had a Republican member who went way the over time allotted, ignored the rules of the committee, badgered the nominee, would not ever let her answer the questions. I've never seen anything like it. I've been here 48 years." pic.twitter.com/YrinFjC5BV

Now, of only the "journalists" would admit that difference, which they won't. We got here through the media not doing what they should have been required to to retain the privileges misnamed rights that the First Amendment has been read into granting.
ReplyDeleteThe older I get the more I understand that where we went wrong wasn't a lack of knowledge, it was a lack of morals and the most basic moral discernment.
