“Change The Facts, Change The Outcome “

The whinging whataboutism of Trump supporters is getting old fast.

And sounds a lot like kids caught by their parents wailing:  “It’s not fair!”

I keep thinking of my parent’s’ generation, who knew war and the terrible cost of violence, and didn’t want to play war afterwards in their own country. Even the Boomers who went to Vietnam came back tired of violence. (It’s part of my thesis that Stewart Rhodes is not a Boomer. Born in ‘66, Vietnam ended when he was 7; by the time of Iraq and 9/11, he was 35.) And after Vietnam there was no draft; something else Boomers had in common with their parents.

And our children and those born after ‘64 are still…children. They play at war and threaten violence because they can’t believe it will be inflicted on them. Although I still think neither the Proud Boys nor the Oath Keepers will generate anything near the violence of J6 again.

But they are children who think violence solves, rather than merely destroys. They are the people they despise, the ones they think live by violence (i.e., non-whites), and they think their violence is pure and will be a purge. Precisely like the people my parents’ generation fought in two theaters in a bloody war across most of the globe that ended with total victory, but which didn’t prove the value, nor the virtue, of war.

They are children who think, if they don’t get their way, either violence or a temper tantrum will get it for them. They are children, and the adults in the room with the responsibility to take charge are putting them in time out. And boy! do they hate that! But they are children, and they take nothing seriously except their own anger and their own feelings.

But the adults are in charge; and the adults will prevail. Already it’s impossible to see this whinging as anything but whinging. That, or the actions of a seriously deranged person.
It’s a fine line between madness and “dangerous to others.” That line has been crossed.
