...this is a set-up looking for the canned response that anyone who grew up in the’70’s could answer just from the briefest exposure to TeeVee evangelists (who were ubiquitous at the time). I start there because Trump didn’t grow up in the American South where the culture is saturated with “evangelical speak” and the most atheist or Jewish or Hindu child would know the answer as a matter of rote.

MAGA is all about buzzwords. Trump spews buzzwords the way he spews lies. He wasn’t being asked here about how government functions or the duties and powers of the federal executive. He was asked the most vacuous question in American Christianity, and he could have answered with the most meaningless, insincere phrases in the culture.

And he couldn’t do it.

And yeah, that’s why. He wasn’t expected to answer honestly and truthfully. He was expected to spout cliches. It’s a rote practice for proving you’re part of the community.

He isn’t. At all. And he’s not even a decent liar about it.
