Now you know why he so desperately wants that ballroom. He really thinks he needs it. Probably wants to put his bed in it. And his office.But national security is not the magic wand that lets Trump do whatever he likes. At least, it shouldn’t be. So far, the courts have allowed the expanded bunker to go ahead as a security measure. But they aren’t buying the ballroom as part of it, not without Congressional authorization.
I’d like to say that standard will remain. If the Sinister Six don’t deal with it on the shadow docket by year’s end, Congress can. Of course, Congress can deal with this anyway. Even if the Supremes say he can do it, Congress can bar it. Even Roberts isn’t going to say Trump has a constitutional right to build whatever he wants on federal lands.
