I feel that @Whataburger has betrayed me personally. https://t.co/xz8gSaKie2— Melanie Trump (@noradaexploraa) April 7, 2019
...advertised on the billboard perched above the Whataburger near my house, and thought the same thing. Never expected to see it on Twitter, though. And for the same reasons:*
Dr (no period) Pepper is wonderful. Milkshakes are wonderful. But a Dr (no period) Pepper shake is just plain wrong. And no, it's not the same as a float. #iwantmycountryback— Karen Tumulty (@ktumulty) April 7, 2019
Takes me back to the days when Dr Pepper tried to promote its goods in the winter (even though the Texas winter is mild and brief and barely puts a dent in the desire to drink cold drinks). They promoted "hot" Dr Pepper.
Yeah, these are the ads I remember. I actually tried this once, as an adult. It was hideous.** First thing about heating carbonated water is, it loses the carbonation. What's left is the syrup, and the water you're heating up. Even a soft drink at room temperature still fizzes; a heated soft drink doesn't. A DP float fizzes, too; a DP shake? Not so much.
Whataburger marketed a root beer shake for awhile. Same problem: the float fizzes, the shake doesn't.
*Sadly, a lot of people in Tumulty's feed think this is a good idea. Which reminds me why McDonald's is still in business, and Taco Bell advertises delivery of the stuff they sell as food.
