No, I am not making this up

Gov. Abbott was quoted on the radio this morning blaming "young people."

Seriously.

He didn't act precipitously in "opening" Texas:  it's the young people who won't wear masks and "socially distance."  His ramp up to 50% capacity in restaurants is not to blame.  Opening bars is not to blame.  Opening everything so people could go to them is not to blame.

People who went there are to blame.

I guess the thinking is "young people don't vote," and that, too, is why they are to blame.  I don't know how much longer this "blame game" is going to work.

  2. Abbott is trying to privatize public health with bs arguments of personal accountability. The whole point of public health is they are outcomes that can only be achieved by group action. The fish rots from the head, the Trump administration won't hold themselves accountable, and now the states with Republican governors won't hold themselves accountable (contrast with Cuomo, who on seeing pictures of people not wearing masks and social distancing at NYC night spots and state beaches threatened to reimpose more stringent closings). We have a test come November, do we want accountable governments or not. The whole point of democracy is a government accountable to the electorate. This will ultimately be more a reflection of us as an electorate, are we accountable to ourselves, neighbors and children?
